YOUTHS
KITA
Adopting a participatory and co-creative process, we walk with under-resourced youths as they claim their agency through belonging, expression, and practice.

OUR STORY
Reflecting on the past six years of running digital career programs for youths at Hatch, Kita marks our renewed dream of building a shared future, together.

Our first cohort of three youths and their trainers, where it all began!
YEAR 2019
Refusing to accept that youths who drop out of formal education are unable to pursue digital career pathways, we launched our first employment program in Web Design. We ran small pilots, working closely with youths and employers, and showed that with the right drive and support, it is possible to help one thrive in their chosen path.

Small Beginnings

Hosting President Halimah Yacob at the graduation of our first all-female cohort.
Growing Our Impact
The shared experience gave us both the motivation and confidence to do more. Bringing together funders who believed in our programs, employers who opened doors, and social service partners who provided vital support, we scaled up our digital pathways program and offered new tracks in Digital Marketing as well as in User Experience and Interface Design.

YEAR 2020 - 2022
RESEARCH FINDINGS
Over a period of 5 years, graduates earn on average a total of $84,728 more than if they had stayed at their pre-program income. The majority of them has also been able to move out of the low-income bracket.
From pre-program to point of evaluation, the percentage of youths who are either not in education, employment, and training (NEET), casually employed, or in gig work decreased from 72% to 9%.
Please reach out if you would like to find out more about our research findings.
Evaluating Our Approach
With the support of TMT and CTPCLP (NUS), we embarked on quantitative and qualitative research on the program's impact. We found that graduates experience an increase in income and are in more stable modes of employment. We also learnt that the program's one-size-fits-all design does not always cater to youths with more complex needs.

YEAR 2023
A Season of Renewal
With our experiences and learnings, we made space for ourselves to dream (again) and re-imagine how we can support youths in achieving their aspirations. We gathered our team, our supporters, and our youths. We reflected on what we felt was precious and dear, and in these collective stories the vision for Kita was birthed.
